Eureka High School will take on Christian Brothers College in the boys varsity basketball Class 5 sectionals game at Lindenwood University, Wednesday, March 6.

EHS is entering the game with a 16-10 record, while CBC is going into the game with a record of 21-7.

The sectionals game comes after Eureka won the Class 5 District 3 championship against Parkway South, 63-46, March 1. The win was the first district championship for Eureka since 2013.

“It’s a great opportunity for our kids,” Austin Kirby, head coach, said. “There’s a lot to do to prepare for CBC.”

CBC is coming off of the Class 5 District 4 championship win against DeSmet, March 1.

“They are very athletic and they’re very talented,” Kirby said. “You have to find their weaknesses and put our guys in the position to succeed against a team as talented as CBC.”

Avery Taggart, forward, is still coming off of an ankle injury going into the game. Taggart is the Wildcat’s lead scorer, averaging 19 points per game.

Behind Taggart for scoring is Jhalon Asher-Sanders, point guard, who averages 13 points per game and is coming off of a shoulder injury.

“We’re really trying to rest,” Kirby said. “We’ve had a couple injured guys. Practices are pretty short right now. We don’t practice very hard since it’s the end of the year.”

Compared to Eureka, CBC’s leading scorers are Caleb Love, point guard, with an average of 18.5 points per game and Joshua Wallace, forward, who averages 13.3 points per game.

The winner of the Eureka-CBC game will go on to play the winner of the Jackson-Mehlville game, Saturday, March 9.
