Recovery efforts after another historic flood and flooding of the gym buildings continue less than a week after campus reopens.

Catco, the fire restoration, water damage repair, and mold removal company, makes progress each day.

The current status of the PE complex?

“I’ll have to check with that with Mr. Cleveland,” Charles Crouther, head principal, said. “But if there are some shutdown, there are enough open for students to use to dress out.”

As of May 9, all locker rooms were available for students to use during PE classes and for after-school sports teams.

These areas are being repaired:

  • The aerobics and wrestling rooms are presently being repaired and put back together and should be ready for use next week, May 15.
  • Two storage closets were damaged and won’t be usable until well into the summer.
  • The softball and baseball concession stand/restroom that were underwater are off-limits but will be repaired in time for next school year.

Senior celebration will be set up as planned, placing the inflatables on the concrete in Gym A, utilizing the pool, Gym B and other areas as needed.

The turf football field was not affected by the flood, but the construction for the new stadium access from the PE complex experience minimal exposure to water. No damage was done.

Next school year, visitors will enter the stadium from the north and the south sides and to access the sports fields behind the school.

The PE complex flood damage repairs and renovations will be complete by the start of the 2017-2018 school year, Crouther said.

“When you walk into the building next year in August, you will be looking at a brand new PE facility,” he said. “All of the construction will be complete, including the weight room and everything that will be repaired from the flood.”

The locker rooms are also set to be refurbished over the summer. The old dressing rooms will be renovated with new plumbing, new stalls and new paint, Crouther said.

Students will be returning for the 2017-2018 school year to a revamped and ready campus.
